Shakespeare is famous for his strong use of metaphors that run throughout his plays. In the play Macbeth he uses a metaphor relating to Lady Macbeth.

In Act 1 Scene 5 Lady Macbeth receives a letter from Macbeth. He explains that he is thane of cawdor and now wants to become king. A messenger then comes in and delivers the news that the king will be dining at Macbeth castle that night. “unsex me here, And fill me, from the crown to the toe, top-full Of direst cruelty!”
