Location: A heath somewhere in scotland
The three witches are on a heath in Scotland. They say they will meet there again with Macbeth. “Fair is foul and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air”
Act 1 Scene 2
Characters: Duncan, Malcolm, Captain, Lenox, Rosse
Location: A camp near Forres
An injured soldier tells how Macbeth killed Macdonwald and fought off the Norwegians with Banquo
Act 1 Scene 3
Characters: Witch 1, Witch 2, Witch 3, Macbeth, Banquo, Rosse, Angus
Location: A heath
The 3 witches have a conversation and then chant as Macbeth enters, then explain that he will be thane of Glamis, thane of Cawdor and king. Macbeth is in confusion and disbelief at how he could possibly become all three of these. Instead of disagreeing Macbeth says to the audience as an “aside” that he will let whatever is going to happen, happen. Macbeth: “Come what come may, Time and the hour runs through the roughest day.”
Act 1 Scene 4
Characters: Duncan, Malcolm, Macbeth, Banquo
Location: A room in the King’s palace
The King asks if Duncan has been executed yet and Malcolm replies that although he hasn’t been executed yet he was honest and owned up to treason. Duncan explains that he can tell whether a person is trustworthy or not just by looking at their face. This creates dramatic irony because

Characters: Macbeth, Lady Macbeth
Location: A room in Macbeth’s castle.
In this scene Macbeth kills the king, he comes back to Lady Macbeth and starts worrying about what has happened. He feels that he is locked out of heaven as when he tried to say amen the word got stuck in his throat. He is so caught up worrying about what he has done that he forgot to stage the murder on the guards, when lady macbeth tells him to go put the dagger
Act 2 Scene 3
Characters: Porter, Macduff, Lenox, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Banquo, Donalbain
Location: A courtyard in Macbeth’s castle
In this scene it is the next morning after Macbeth killed the king. They wish him a good morning. Macduff goes to wake up the king and finds him dead. He alarms everyone and they accuse the guards of doing. So far Macbeth has not been suspected. They accuse the guards of treason because of the blood on their faces and the knives on their beds
